Ormers Do The Double Over Gunners From Hampshire

Ormer FC made hard work of their latest encounter of Junior Premier League football. The Guernsey lads struggled to find their usual pass and move football for large periods of this league match, but in the end came away with a very important three points. Ultimately this is another step towards their quest for a place in the top 8 end of season league title shoot out.

Sometimes in football you need to win ugly and this turned out to be one of those games, for the young Ormers. Arsenal set out their stool very early with a high pressing game and showed why all of their previous games had been tight affairs throughout the season. The Arsenal boys playing in their famous red and white kit, were a very well drilled and organised side, which was always going to be another tough test for Ormer on a cold afternoon in Portchester.

Ormer were being forced to move the ball quickly in the early stages of quarter one, as Arsenal came tried to impose themselves on the game. Keene Domaille was the first player from both sides to get a shot off of any note, as he weaved space for himself before firing from long distance, but it never troubled George Newman in the Arsenal goal as it flew well over the bar. Arsenal then went close from a long throw routine, which was flicked on from one of the runners into the box. Ormer keeper Jack Hamon had to be on his toes as the bounce almost caught him out.

Good work by Domaille set up a great chance for Alex Roussel, who smashed a low shot from the edge of the box, this beat Newman, but the post came to his rescue as the ball eventually went to safety. This brought the quarter to an end, with the game evenly poised at 0.0.

Ormer started to get on top, but were still not playing with their normal fluency, as Arsenal worked hard to give their opponents nothing. The break through did come midway through the second quarter, as Brandon Wallace put in a fantastic cross after beating his man down the left flank, as the ball fell in the box, Archie Drillot cut across the ball and sent it arrowing into the far corner of Arsenal’s net 1.0 Ormer. The goal showed great technique, you would expect from an experienced striker, but Ormers reliable defender showed he has striker’s attributes in his locker.

Both Adams and Domaille had shots easily saved by Newman as Ormer went into half time a goal to the good. Quarter three had only just started, as Roussel struck a ferocious shot, that brought out a great save from Newman, who pushed it around the foot of the post and out for an Ormer corner. The post was struck again by Ormer as they tried to get a foot hold in the game, it came from the boot of Domaille, who worked space for himself, but again Arsenal got away with it, as the ball cannoned to safety. The quarter finished with very little goal mouth action, as both sides kept losing possession to each other.

The final quarter was always going to be a tense affair, as Ormer took their slender 1.0 lead into the last 20 minutes of the match. Arsenal’s commanding centre back Toby Neville went close to getting Arsenal level with a header from an Arsenal corner, he was the only player to react in the box, but luckily for Ormer it went wide of the far post. An Arsenal player then went 1 on 1 with Hamon, he chipped the out rushing Ormer keeper, and another let off, as the ball went into the side netting.

However the Ormers did finally secure the cushion they required. Once again it came from a build-up in a wide midfield position and a cross into the Arsenal area by Brandon Wallace. Joe Adams brought the ball down on to his left foot and shot across the diving keeper into the far corner via the foot of the post. The Ormers were able to play out the rest of the game without further incidence. Final score Ormer FC 2 Arsenal Hampshire 0.

Next week-end sees the Ormers back in action against Rushden Diamonds in the quarter final of the JPL Cup. The winners will play Newport County or WBA Colts.
