Ormer Run Continues With Win Over Oxford City

Ormer FC has won their third successive match against Oxford City in beautiful autumn sunshine. The game was played at Oxford City FC’s Stadium, with a lunchtime kick off. The first quarter started with both teams giving away easy possession, which also turned out to be a very even and hard fought twenty minutes.

The first break through of the match came for the Ormers, Ben Stevens threaded a cute ball into Joe Adams, and he took his marker on at pace and side footed past Oxford Keeper Rohan Dennehy 1.0 Ormer FC. Oxford did not take long to get back on level terms, as their pacey striker Chima Iwuchukwu was causing a few problems and it was from his boot the equaliser came. The tall Iwuchukwu picked up a half Ormer clearance and whipped a lovely shot past Ormer keeper Jack Hamon, which put the teams all square 1.1.

Brandon Wallace chased down an Oxford defender who was found wanting, he then got his rewards by setting himself up for a one on one with the keeper, the Oxford stopper was equal to his shot and saved well. The hard working Iwuchukwu raced clear on the counter attack, but the ever reliable Jamie Smith made a great cover tackle and made sure both teams went into the first interval level.

The second quarter was a cagey affair and Ormer was struggling to get their usually dependable passing game going, the pace of the game was slow and misplaced passes by both teams was making the game scrappy. Oxford kept looking for Iwuchukwu and the skillful Omar Thomas was becoming more involved in the game. The Ormer boys backed of Iwuchukwu one time to many and he hit a long range shot that cannoned of the bar, but luckily to safety. This woke up Ormer from their mini slumber and came their best footballing move of the game so far, Adams passed to Finley Du Port who reversed it back to the marauding Adams, who in turn played an inch perfect ball into Stevens stride, Stevens did not catch it on the full and the keeper made a comfortable save.

There was a bit of fortune as Ormer took the lead, Stevens cross come shot, looked to be heading into the keepers hands, but it managed to go straight through and trickled into the net 2.1 Ormer. The third quarter began with a couple of free kicks for Oxford, one was drilled into the Ormer wall and the other high and wide. A good inside pass from Alex Roussel to Adams, whose first time pass to Du Port again set up a good goal scoring opportunity, Du Port snatched at the chance and the keeper saved with ease.

Adams was at it again, this time he ghosted in from the right flank and drilled the ball into the box, Du Port got a faint touch which was going goal wards, an Oxford defender was well positioned, but his clearance hit his own keeper and went into the net for an own goal 3.1 Ormer. Not much really happened for the rest of the quarter, as the ball was played around by both team’s midfields. Into the last quarter

Ormer sensed that another goal would probably seal the game and went in search right from the off. Josh Duddy had a couple of half chances which came to nothing. Barnaby Taylor, Archie Drillot and Smith did not give the Oxford forwards a glimpse of goal in the last quarter, this was giving the rest of the team confidence to attack. Harry Tough flicked the ball out to Roussel, who then proceeded to switch play out to the right and in particular the feet of Wallace who had acres of space. After collecting the ball, Wallace attacked the space, cut in off the right and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top far corner 4.1 Ormer. The goal itself was worth winning any game and set Ormer on their way to another important win.

There was still time for Tough to have a pop at goal, but the keeper somehow kept it out with his feet, which turned out to be another good save. Ormer FC will be happy to come away with another win, albeit far from their best. Next up for Ormer FC is an away inter-Island clash, as the Ormers travel to play The Isle Of Wight Academy on Saturday 24th October with a midday kick off.
