Ormer FC’s first taste of the Junior Premier League football got under way at the Test Park sports ground. They entertained Purbeck Allstars who are also newcomers to the league. The pitch was well maintained with the weather conditions overcast at kick off.
Period 1…Ormer FC 2,
Purbeck 1 It took Purbeck only seconds to take an early lead after the ball slipped from Ormer’s keeper Jack Hamon grasp, Luke Bourton of Purbeck was first to react and rammed the ball home from close range. It was not long after the restart that Ormers found their way back into the game. Jamie Smith sent through a defence splitting ball that a Purbeck defender tried to cut out only to wrong foot his own keeper and the ball nestled into the bottom corner. Archie Drillot then drove through Purbecks hard working midfield, skipping past a couple of defenders and leaving them in his wake. He got to the by-line and pulled the ball back to the six yard box only for the covering defender to touch it past his helpless keeper. The rest of the period was end to end which came to no fruition for either side.
Period 2…Ormer FC 0 Purbeck 0
This period was very even as the score line suggests. Most of this period was played in the midfield which was congested. Both sides continued to work hard and did not let the other play for any long duration. Joe Adams slipped Ben Stevens in for a half chance, which he hit well, but it hit the outside of the post and into the side netting. Stevens then found space but this time shot first time which went high and wide. A Purbeck player was put through down the line, but Hamon was out quick to snuff out any danger. Stevens found time and space on the right, he cut inside but blasted his shot straight into the keeper’s arms. Half chances came and went for both sides, but neither could capitalise.
Period 3…Ormer FC 1 Purbeck 1
Ormer started to dominate possession, Stevens drove to the by-line and sent a ball across the box at pace, Josh Duddy did upmost to get on the end of it but the ball whizzed past his outstretched boot. Adams rode a Purbeck tackle and sent Stevens racing clear, he stayed composed and placed it past the keeper with ease. Purbeck then had a great chance as Ormer’s defence got caught in possession, the Purbeck forward struck the ball well and only went inches wide. The second did come for Purbeck as Joe Smith hit a fantastic shot from outside the area which finished in the far left corner. Finley Du Port then cut loose down the right and placed the ball into Stevens path, his first time shoot was well saved by the Lucas Barringer the Purbeck keeper.
Period 4…Ormer FC 1, Purbeck 0
The Ormers started to get on top but the hard working Purbeck team were still making life difficult. Harry Tough send Duddy through on goal, Brad Smith the central defender for Purbeck managed to get back and use his strength to win the ball back for his side. Stevens drilled in a low cross which Du Port hit first time. Once again Barringer reacted to the situation and pushed the ball away, it was followed up by Duddy but Barringer again made another great save. Tough then rolled the ball to Wallace who aimed and fired past the Purbeck keeper. There was still time for Du Port to set up Wallace, only this time the ball came back off the inside of the post. Both teams worked really hard and there was lots of effort put in by both set of boys. Best of all the game was played in great spirits. Well done to both sets of players and coaches. Final score Ormer FC 4 Purbeck 2.
